| Hiatt Darby Detective Handcuffs Much like regular Hiatt Darby Antique
Handcuffs these are smaller in diameter, lighter in weight, and have two
extra links allowing the smaller hardware to still have the same distance
between the cuffs. These are also known as "Superintendent Cuffs"
- because their lighter weight made them both more expensive to make and
yet easier for higher ranking officers to carry. |
||
Hiatt 1960 Pattern Cuffs,Manufactured and used during the 1960's. Their
unusual shape notwithstanding, these are "regular" double locking
swing-through handcuffs. The cuffs have a single swivel. The key, however,
is somewhat unusual, It looks like a simple tube with a small bite missing
at the bottom, The 'bite' catches on a pin in the keyhole post which is
actually part of the ratchet latch. Double locking is achieved by turning
the key in the direction opposite to the unlocking direction.
